The owners of this gorgeous little cottage were refered to me by a neighbour up the street, I did work for them a year before. They loved their little place, but just wanted a bit more room and move things around a bit to flow better. It was important to modernise the home but keep the feel of the old 1920's - 30's cottage and keep within a reasonable budget.
To begin, we relocated the master bedroom to the rear, giving it a new ensuite and robe. The laundry was in the dining room, so we were able to tuck that next to the ensuite, away from the living areas. We extended the existing bathroom out which made it the room it was meant to be, humble but grande in its place between bed 2 & 3. We then extended the rear of the cottage to provide a stunning kitchen, dining and family area with a beautiful new fireplace and flowing out to the spacious new rear deck, all being the heart of the home . We allowed for some generous skylights here to provide lashings of light and keep the privacy from the neighbours with suitable highlight windows. The front room then became a quiet sitting room allowing the owners to have their own quiet space if needed and also kept an open uncluttered feel to the entry.
